The education community was eagerly awaiting some mega announcemnts and the FM Nirmala Sitharaman did not disappoint !

Our team took a close look at the recently announced budget and identified the following seven key takeaways for the education sector

Largest ever allocation to education

In union budget 2023, allocation for the Ministry of Education for the next financial year stands at ₹1,12,898.97 crore. This happens to be  the highest ever allocation granted to the ministry ever.

Government priortises school education 

The distribution between school and higher education was as follows :

School Education Department ₹68,804.85 crore

Higher Education Department ₹44,094.62 crore.

PMKVY4.0 gets a moder Avatar

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 will work on skill development of youth and will also cover modern disciplines like Artificial Intelligence, robotics, the internet of things and 3D printing. 

Mass scale teacher intake

The district Institutes of Education and Training and the proposal to recruit over 38,800 teachers in Eklavya model residential schools. 

New medical colleges

157 new nursing colleges will be established in colocation with the existing 157 medical colleges established since 2014

Digital library to be scaled to facilitate availability of books 

In the Education budget, the government has promised a national digital library for children and adolescents to facilitate the availability of quality books. 

Skill India International Centres to be set up across different States:

For the purpose of skilling the youth for international opportunities, 30 Skill India International Centres will be set up across different States:
